The Faeries

By Lori Parker

Faerie mound sits undisturbed

Queen sits throne unperturbed

Princess glances at the Prince

Smirks and looks over the fence

Tiny faerie flits and lights

On a thistle hid from sight

Prince stands up and takes to sky

Flying here and there on high

Princess falls to the ground

Wings that ne’er make a sound

Queen rises up, pointing her staff

Prince and Princess dart and laugh

Tiny faerie comes on out

Dashes forth and looks about

Spies the Prince and beckons him

With his wings he starts to spin

Queen lets forth a rumbling growl

Princess sees the staff of power

“Nay” she cries to the Prince

Tiny faerie stops to wince

Power came from the staff

Prince let out a hardy laugh

Catching power with his shield

“No, dear Queen, I will not yield”

Tiny faerie spins again

Prince comes over, is locked within

Princess comes to save her brother

Sends pleading look to Queen, her mother

Tiny faerie stops the spinning

Looks to Queen and starts his grinning

“Now give forth to me the staff”

“For the power I must have”

Queen looks upon the tiny faerie

Smiles just once and comes to carry

Tiny faerie to his bed

Tiny spell was quickly shed

Prince and Princess look upon

Their tiny brother, little Sean

They smile and wink above his head

With their wings widely spread

As he closes his eyes they say

“Tomorrow is another day”
