The Lesson

by Carrie Michael

Many times

We take for granted

The darkness

That creeps into our being

During the lonely hours

We mourn and cry

Forget

Instead of taking it in

Owning its perpetual cloak

Its utility

Brute strength

Empowering and embracing

Its lesson

Many times

We only feel its raw intensity

And ignore

The message

In its blow.
