Hester and the Good Reverend
by Jennifer
Hill
She
was on her way to bed
when the phone rang
and his anxious voice
leapt back into her life.
She had been
playing
a new song on her guitar
that had a bad neck
and a bridge that was too high.
She
has hard callused fingertips now
and can play softly late at night,
but she stopped because he was
only a minute and a half away
and all she’d been thinking
was how much she wanted to see him.
